At Maumee Intermediate School gifted students will be placed with other advanced learners at their grade level in Mathematics, English/Language Arts and Science. In this configuration, students will be instructed at an accelerated pace, with greater depth of content and rigor. The Gifted Services classes may be co-taught by the classroom teacher and Mrs. Gail Salmon, Gifted Intervention Specialist. Students will participate in projects, extended thinking activities, and independent studies. This learning environment will move well above and beyond the basic core content standards. This approach will also ensure a smooth flow for students as they continue to move through the Gifted Services program at Maumee Intermediate School and into the Honors program at Maumee Middle School.
Identified gifted students will be placed in a classroom setting with teachers who have advanced training in gifted instruction, and/or have Gifted Intervention Specialist credentials. As qualified providers of gifted service, the team of teachers create stimulating opportunities that directly address the gifted child’s academic needs.
