For some reason we were distracted by debugging apps on mobile devices. We played with Android and iOS, some links for reference:
Joe Balsamo told us about installing MEAN.io and and Meteor in internal Linux redhat e7 VMs. MEAN was a lot harder to install. MEAN is at meanio.uhmc.sunysb.edu and meteor is at meteor.uhmc.sunysb.edu
The stack of web technologies has reached the point where it allows for apps that have all the advantages of native applications and none of the disadvantages.

Cloud based boxes (exposing a file picker API) like Box.com, DrobBox, GoogleDrive, OneDrive etc are developing all of the functionalities previously associated with advanced data management infrastructure. In other words, they have evolved into full stack platforms (PaaS) with cutting edge governance models and support for application development. Also at StonybrookMedicine we have now reached the point where this is the only model where we can deliver consumer-facing data-intensive applications. Accordingly, the next two I2 sessions will introduce Web App development for Box infrastructure at SBM. For those of you without access to SBM's Box, you can start a free personal account. We will in any case target both Box.com and DropBox to make sure the generality of the solution is well understood.
Let's take our time to visit an App developed by Wade Jakahi at SBM-IT and find out what data service supports it and what libraries enable it: sbmedxdev.uhmc.sunysb.edu/sbmApps.
