My Shard's color represents the sadness in A Single Shard when Crane-Man dies and when Min's son dies. The crown is for the Royal emissary because if they would not have come, the story wouldn't be called A Single Shard. The boat is when the emissary sails to Chulp'o. The bridge is where Crane-Man died and where Tree-Ear and Crane-Man slept. A chrysanthemum because they were around alot in the stoty. Shards because when the robbers threw the vases off the mountain, there were shards. A flower because of the ladies that jumped off a mountain. That's what all my pictures are on my shard.---by Hunter
On the shard I drew a crane because in A Single Shard by Linda Sue Park, one of the main characters is Crane-Man. He is an elder who uses a cane and has an injured or "bad" leg. I also drew a prunus vase andit breaks so there is a single shard left. Lastly, I drew a tree with an ear because the main character is Tree-Ear. He has gone through hard times (all the times he worked for Min) but has worked hard and earned the honor to take the shard to be observed.----by Aurora
On my shard I drew a tree with ears on it. I did this because the main character's name is Tree-Ear. He is named after a certain fungus that grows on trees. At the end of A Single Shard, Tree-Ear becomes an apprentice potter and changes his name. I chose to draw a tree with ears to represent what adventures he had before becoming an apprentice potter. I also drew a shard that represents the shard that Tree-Ear brought to Emissary Kim, completing his task.--by Michael T.
My shard represents the whole story. In the first part, there is a crane and a mushroom called a "Tree-Ear." They reflectively represent Crane-Man and Tree-Ear. As you look along it, you will see a pot; it represents Min. Also, you will find a boquet, it represents the royal commissioner. You will see petals going across which represent bravery. The crocks represent hardship. The final thing is Ajima. ---by Francis
My shard had brown vines with flowers and leaves on it, showing someone's life growing, yet how it broke it shows how fast life could end, just like Crane-Man, and Min's son, and more.---by Kiara
I chose to do this design because it shows how colorful and bright Tree-Ear's personality is. I also chose to do chrysanthemums because they are very important to the story. I wanted to do a gree because that is how he first loved pottery; watching from a tree. I think it ties into the story's theme of finding yourself. ----by Alma
