Screencastify is a tool we can use to record what is going on on your computer screen, your voice, and even capture video of yourself. It is super easy to use! It is also very secure because it saves the videos you make to your google drive. You will be able to paste links to your videos right inside your email Remote Learning Experience (RLE) template or easily link them into google docs or slides. Remember to update the share settings so that "anyone with the link can view" before pasting in the link to the video you want students to see. This is a feature that is not accessible as easily with Loom, which is why we recommend Screencastify. To get to Screencastify on your device, you will just link on the icon (a red arrow with a white camera inside) in your extension tool bar pictured to the right.
Keep videos to less than 6 minutes as a best practice for Remote Learning Experiences (RLE).
Remember, you can tell the students to pause the video and try something at any point during your lesson.
You can record anything on your screen! This would be a great way to walk students through something they may have to navigate online the first time.
This is a great way to let the students see and hear your voice- it brings them comfort!
It is recommended that you upload your screencastify videos to youtube before sharing - Youtube is the most accessible way to view videos from any device :)
If you share straight from drive, you have to go into your screencastify folder in google drive and update the settings to "anyone with the link can view"

Goggle Slides are good for shiny 6-pagers or 600 page snoozefests, we are going for the 6 pages. Google Slides not only have everything you need to pull together an awesome presentation, but you’ll never have to hit “save” again.
All your presentations are automatically saved and stored in Google Drive. Access them wherever you go, from any device. Plus, you can open and edit other presentations without any special software.
Keep slides short and clear for students to read. Remember that a video should only be 6 minutes long. Students need to read and comprehend the information on the slides themselves so it takes longer for them to do the work.
Remember that you can put your slides in present mode and record yourself using Screencastify! That way the students can watch the Screencastify video and hear what you have to say instead of figuring it out on their own by reading the slides along.
Consider using slides to capture student work. They could use the slides as their own notebook and add a slide each day. OR you could create slides and have each student assigned to one. This becomes their personal work space and gives you quick access to see their work. Assign a slide to each student to post and capture their own work and thinking.
Publishing the Google Slides file to the web makes it so that the students don't have to click into your file and have to press present. Instead, it provides you with a link that you can paste into your Remote Learning Experiences (RLE) template that takes them straight to present mode!
Your laptop has a whiteboard tool that will be a great resource if you want to demonstrate learning while you are on Google Meet with a student or as part of an instructional video.
