Tuesday, September 3rd: Students will complete a practice TDA (Text Dependent Analysis) on the geography of Rome. Mrs. Hartman will model how to use the ICE method to accurately cite historical sources. Students will be working on a map of the Roman Empire in their packets.

Wednesday, September 4th: Students will review the geography of Rome. Students will take notes on "The Origins of Rome" textbook reading with Mrs. Hartman. Answer key notes can be found below. Students will compare and contrast Etruscan/Greek Culture to see how it influenced Roman culture. Students will play a game in class to review this material.

Tuesday, September 10th: Students will learn about the early Roman Republic government. Students will compare and contrast the United States government with that of the Roman Republic. Students will read the page "How the U.S. Government Works" and fill out the table on the next page comparing the Roman Republic with the U.S. Government. This will be completed in class. Students will also preview some information regarding the September 11th events of 2001. Mrs. Hartman will share with students a personal connection and an artifact from that day.

Wednesday, September 11th: Students will learn about the Roman military, specifically the Roman Legion. Students will use the provided note taking document that turns into a "foldable." A copy of that document is listed here for students who are absent. Students will learn about what life was like as Roman soldier.

Thursday, September 12th: Students will continue learning about the Roman military and Roman Legions. Students will complete a TDA on the Roman military. If time allows, students will play a review game kahoot on material learned so far. The TDA will be due Friday, September 13th at the start of class.
Friday, September 13th: Students will learn about Rome's Punic Wars through readings, notes, explanation/map videos, and class discussion. Students will complete the "Fill-in-the-blank" page in their Rome packets with Mrs. Hartman. A copy of those answer slides can be found below. Students will put themselves in the "shoes"/perspective of General Scipio and try to decide if he should invade Carthage or stay in Rome. They will complete the situational awareness page where they explain which choice they make and why. Students will need to finish their "Scipio vs Hannibal Decision Making Activity" in their packets. Students will find out what Scipio actually did on Monday!

Monday, September 16th: Students will review the Punic War content from Friday. Students will discuss what choice they would make if they were General Scipio. Students will then continue learning about the Punic Wars and what Scipion decided to do. Students will review the 5 main takeaways from the Punic Wars and how it impacted the Roman Civilization. Students will reflect on the lesson question by completing the "Roman Success Google Slide Assignment" posted to google classroom! Students will paste 3 pictures and write a short explanation on why the Roman army was successful in conquering land. This is on google classroom. Students will show their slides to Mrs. Hartman on Wednesday, September 18th. Students will be told about an upcoming quiz on Thursday, September 19th. A study guide is posted below.

Tuesday, September 17th: Students will begin learning about the End of the Republic (class discussion). Students will compete the Roman Leaders and Trouble in the Republic graphic organizers as they watch Mrs. Hartman's videos and notes. They will work at their own pace for this activity. These videos are posted to google classroom under "Unit #1: Ancient Rome, End of the Republic Videos and Notes." Students will participate in a class discussion of what led the fall of the Roman Republic. If time remains, students will then begin to work with the study guide for Thursday's quiz

Monday, September 23rd: Students will complete a fill-in-the-blank worksheet about Julius Caesar and follow along with Mrs. Hartman's video. Students will then complete 3 Edpuzzles posted to google classroom. These will be graded.
Tuesday, September 24th: Students will make a historical marker about Julius Caesar. Your inscription should be 5-7 lines in length and include at least 4 facts/details about Julius Caesar’s life and/or death. Please type your title and inscription on the historical marker found on slide 2. See slide 3 for examples of other historical marker inscriptions if you are struggling to come up with one. This assignment is posted on Google classroom! This is due by Thursday 9/26! If students finish early, they will complete an introduction activity on Augustus and the Pax Romana.
Wednesday, September 25th: Students will review the accomplishments of Augustus (1st Emperor) and look at 2 documents that offer differing perspectives of him. Students will decide if they personally think he was a good leader or not for Rome. Students will then be assigned a Roman Inventions/Contributions to become an "expert" about. They will share their findings and notes with their group members. Students will fill in their packets. Any student who does not get the notes completed must finish them individually using this website below.

Thursday, September 26th: Students will complete a 3 level reading guide about the life of Gladiators with Mrs. Hartman. Students will examine a recorded gladiator event and discuss the impacts. All materials are in their packet. Students will need to finish the article and 3 level reading questions (boxes 1-6) for homework if not finished in class.
Friday, September 27th: Students will be watching a documentary about the use of Roman Colosseums during the Pax Romana. All materials are in their packet. There are no graded assignments for today.
Monday, September 30th: Students will be learning about the city of Pompeii and Herculaneum that was destroyed by Mount Vesuvius volcano. This event covered the cities in ash that scientists/archeologists have been able to make plaster casts out of. These plaster casts give us a glimpse into daily life within the Roman society. If time allows, students will complete an edpuzzle to review content about Augustus' leadership to set them up for tomorrow's lesson on the following emperors. All materials are in their packet.
