Homework: Students are given homework Monday-Thursday. Rarely, do I give any homework on Fridays. All homework is assigned online through Big Ideas. Even though the students submit their answers online, they still need to show all of their work in their notebook or on looseleaf.
Absent: If a student is ever sick or misses class due to band/orchestra, they can check out the absent document. The absent document can also be found in the homeroom Google Classroom.
Video Resources: All math lessons have a video lesson of me teaching it. Students are able to go to the Math Google Classroom to rewatch any videos. Students are also able to watch videos from Youtube or other websites related to the topic to help them. Please click here to view other videos related to our units in Math.
Big Ideas Math is a complete middles school program developed with the Common Core State Standards. MASD adopted a new math textbook for 6th graders to continue our efforts to provide the curriculum and materials that will best prepare students to become college and career ready by the end of their high school experience. One of the primary reasons for making the switch from Everyday Math to Big Ideas is that Big Ideas will better align with middle school math as well as high school math up through advanced algebra. In doing so, this change will support a more streamlined transition to middle school. Big Ideas Math for 6th grade is a balance of traditional math and investigational/explorational math which will support deeper student understanding. For 6th graders, fraction division as well as decimal multiplication and division are new concepts but they are being taught using the traditional algorithms (just like you learned in school!).
