What is Genius Hour?

Genius hour is originally a Google initiative. Students spend 1 hour every week, researching about a topic or passion they want to learn more about. Students will spend the trimester working on one project and will present to the class at the end of the trimester. Students are able to present in a variety of different which allows for students to have more voice and choice in what they do.

Students will fill out a proposal form at the beginning before even starting their research. This is where the students will make a plan about what it is they want to research, what they already know about the topic, and how they would like to present it. Once students turn in the proposal and their project has been approved, students will start the inquiry process by filling out KWL's , taking notes on their topic, and creating a presentation with a bibliography included. Students learn valuable research skills, time management, and public speaking skills. Each trimester students start over with a new proposal for a new project!
