MUSD has also adopted the Units of Study Writer's Workshop. Students are exposed to creating 5 paragraph essays with clear thesis statements and supporting evidence. This curriculum moves through Narrative, Information, Literary Essays (response to literature), Research-Based Argument Essays, and Memoir genres.
To enhance students' writing ability, we also focus on writing conventions through the use of daily language review, which also includes grammar development. These include editing sentences, review of synonyms, antonyms, homophones, parts of speech, prefixes, suffixes, etc. These are hit heavily in the beginning of the year to ensure students have good habits while they are writing, and then reviewed weekly.
These skills transfer directly over to typing skills that we will practice daily with our Typing program. Typing and formatting documents are going to be a major skill this year.
