Building Blocks of Science from Carolina has officially been adopted by MUSD!
Through Building Blocks, we will be focusing on 3 major units including: Structure and Property of Matter, Matter and Energy in Ecosystems, and Earth and Space Systems. These topics will begin with an investigation of a natural phenomena that are designed to engage students students and get them to ask "Why" questions while learning about concepts through hands on activities and nonfiction reading materials.

At Martinez Unified School District, the 5th grade Family Life curriculum comes from Positive Prevention Plus. Just as with State Testing, California is an "opt-out" state. This means you would need to opt your student out before our lessons begin. An email comes every year from the District Office giving information about the "California Healthy Youth Act" where more information will be provided about opting-out and what we cover in our state provided curriculum. They will also offer a time available to preview the materials we go over at the District Office. This email typically comes in the beginning of the second semester (January/February) and we do not cover this until after State Testing (May). After previewing the materials, please reach out to your teacher with any questions or concerns.
