Solo & Ensemble

Solo and Ensemble is an adjudicated event that gives students an opportunity to showcase their musical talents as solo performers or in small ensembles. 

If your child chooses to participate, here are the expectations

• Participants are to practice their music early and often.

• ASK ME FOR HELP EARLY AND AS OFTEN AS NEEDED! I will make time to help students before or after school whenever possible. Students can also submit video recordings to me for feedback if they cannot stay before or after school.  

• All soloists are required to have an accompanist and will need to rehearse with them at least two times before their event. They will be expected to show up to these rehearsals. (Dates and times of accompanist rehearsals will be determined at a later date)

• Once registered, it is crucial that participants follow through with their commitment to perform.

Performance Details

• Location: Lake Brantley High School

• Date: March 1st & 2nd (Students will be scheduled on 1 of the two days)

• Music

  • If students were given a solo by a private teacher, they will need to buy an original copy of the piece with the piano accompaniment (or borrow the originals from your private teacher).   

  • If students perform something from the MKMS Band Libary or their method book, I have purchased the original copy for them.

• Cost: $40.00 due by February 10th (Pays for registration and Piano Accompanist)

  • This fee can be paid via this MySchoolBucks link, cash, or check made payable to Markham Woods Band.

• Rehearsals:  I will set up dates for the accompanist to come to the school to rehearse with students. Dates and times are TBA

• Attire: This is a formal performance in front of a judge; students are expected to dress professionally.

• Ratings: Ratings will be posted online shortly after the performance. Check your school email for your ID number, as you will need it to look up your results.
