Beginning Band
The Beginning Band is a full-year academic course designed to provide students an introductory experience on woodwind, brass, or percussion instruments. No experience is required. During the first few weeks of school, students will collaborate with the teacher to choose one of the following instruments:
Woodwind - Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Saxophone, Bassoon
Brass – Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba
Percussion – Bell Kit, Drum
Physical characteristics, prior musical experience, instrument availability, students’ interest, and a need for a balanced instrumentation within the band will all be considered during the instrument selection process.
This class aims to give students the fundamental skills needed to continue their development into the more advanced bands. While many other elective courses are semester based, all band classes are full-year classes that meet during the academic school day. Students will be held to a high standard and have the opportunity to perform music in various concerts and adjudicated events. All Beginning Band students are eligible to audition for the Concert, Symphonic, and Jazz Band at the end of the academic year.
