Symphonic Band

The Symphonic Band is one of the “premier instrumental ensembles” at Markham Woods Middle School. The Symphonic Band is a rigorous full-year academic course designed to provide students the opportunity to extend their skills beyond the beginner level. The Symphonic Band is an audition-only course; students must have at least one year of previous band experience.

The goal for this class is to dive into more advanced musical concepts and further hone students’ individual performance techniques and the principles of ensemble performance. Symphonic Band is a full-year class that meets during the academic school day. Given the talent level and work ethic needed to be in the Symphonic Band, students will be held to a very high standard. The Symphonic Band regularly performs in school and community events and participates in professionally adjudicated festivals. Members of the Symphonic Band are also encouraged to seek private lessons, participate in solo performances, and audition for county and state-wide ensembles.
