“Left untreated or undermanaged, health barriers to learning can adversely affect children’s ability to see, hear and pay attention in the classroom, their ability and motivation to learn, their attendance, their academic performance, and even their chances of graduating from high school.”
School health services help ensure students' physical, mental, and social-emotional needs are met to best support the whole child.
School health services include but are not limited to, first aid, management of chronic conditions, acute illness care, care coordination, primary care, mental and behavioral health, vision screening and care, dental services, preventive services, health promotion activities, and student, caregiver, and staff education. These services also may help address the social determinants of health and improve health literacy and advocacy skills among students, caregivers, and staff.
MCSD's school health services are delivered by licensed providers employed by the district and health care providers and community organizations that partner with the district.
