Makerspace
Welcome to the Makerspace resources!
Check back weekly for a new project that you can do at home. If you create projects or complete activities as a family, send videos or pictures to spfaff@marinerscs.org because I can't wait to see what you make!
New for the Week of May 24
Make a Bot
You will probably need to do a little shopping for this one, but once you have your supplies, you can turn something small into a robot. Have fun!
Weekly Highlighted Activities
Paper Catapult
This was our first Maker morning activity. You need regular printer paper, scissors, and tape.
Paper Cross
All you need for this week's project is a piece of paper, scissors, and good listening skills. You will be surprised by what you make!
Tilting Maze
Grab some more paper! This week we are making a Tilting Maze. You need about 4 sheets of paper, scissors, tape, and something to roll through your maze. You can try many different items to roll through just to see how each one is different. I can't wait to see your mazes!
Rube Goldberg Machine
You have probably seen videos or pictures of these contraptions before. The idea is that you create an overly complicated "machine" that completes a small task. Please talk to your parents before you begin so that you agree on the materials and space you may use before you begin. Have fun!
Imaginology
Imaginology is back this year as a virtual event! Watch the video to learn about the 3D Creation Contest. All photos of your project must be sent to me by March 19th so that I can enter it into the competition. You can actually enter all of the contests that are available on this Imaginology website. (See the slideshow below for more information.) Have fun!
Paper Chain Challenge
Try these three challenges with making a paper chain! You can complete the challenges by yourself or make it a competition with your family. Have fun!
Paper Clip Trick
Impress your friends and family with this simple yet impressive trick. All you need is a one dollar bill and two paper clips. Have fun!
Paper Parachute
Welcome back from Spring Break! Here is another challenge using paper. This time, you are building a paper parachute. I have not made a video, because I want you to try on your own. It's all about reading and following directions carefully. Have fun, and send me a video or a picture of your parachute!
Water Squirter
It is supposed to be very hot by the end of this week! Use this creation from KiwiCo.com to make something that will help cool you off. (See directions below.) Once you know how to make one, try different size cups and straws to see if there is any difference in your squirter. Have fun!
NASA Mars Helicopter (paper version)
Have you been following all the exciting news about the little helicopter that NASA is flying on Mars? Follow this link to learn more about the Ingenuity and to make your own paper version of a helicopter. Enjoy!

Family Fun
Time for Family Fun! These activities are meant to be completed as a family by using a design process. You will not find lots of details here because you are to work out the details together! Check here often for new challenges.
Highlighted Activities
Woodshop
There are so many ways to work with wood and wooden items to build things at home. Many projects do not even require wood tools. Check out projects that we have put together for you.
