Central idea: Maintaining peace and resolving conflict can help humans to live harmoniously.
Year 5 have been continuing their inquiry journey, exploring our central idea, focusing on the First World War. The children have been developing their geography skills, using six grid map references alongside soldiers from Marden. We have been investigating the changes in the land from the destruction in WW1, such as in the town of Ypres. Furthermore, they have used their knowledge of coding in Scratch, to create an interactive quiz about the types of conflict. The children have been inquisitive and taken great pride in their learning.
In Writing, we have continued exploring the conflict in WW1, planning and writing a narrative, based around the trenches. We have used relative clauses, modal verbs and prepositional phrases to enhance our writing. Alongside, meaningful and sympathetic figurative language to reflect the tragedy of the war.
In Maths, Year 5 have spent time recapping multiplication and division, ensuring key concepts are solidified. The children have also had the opportunity to practice multi-step word problems.
A big well done to Year 5 for completing their mock SATs papers this week!
