Central idea: Human behaviour can affect the survival of our planet.
It has been lovely to welcome the children back to our final module of Year 2, it is amazing how much they have all grown and developed with us this year.
Our inquiry this module includes looking at saving the planet; considering the impact of both human behaviour and global issues, researching the impact these have on the climate and the various habitats that we have across the world.
We have started this journey using our geography knowledge, researching the northern and southern hemisphere; the countries within and the position of the line of the equator. The children were then able to produce a detailed climate map further enhancing their knowledge.
This linked perfectly to our art this module where we are exploring the work of the artist Mark Rothko; who was best known for his use of colour field paintings that depicted irregular and regular painted rectangular regions of colour. The children used this inspiration to create a three colour block representation of their chosen habitat; rainforest, artic, ocean or desert before adding a number of artist mediums to create an outline of the flora and fauna that existed there. We were amazed by the stunning representations that the children created, showing their full appreciation of abstract art and will form their setting for their upcoming writing next week.
In maths, we have taken the opportunity to revisit some of the earlier areas of the curriculum where the children have been completing a mix of practical lessons and workbook based activities. We have been so impressed with just how much knowledge the children have managed to retain and apply throughout all of the strategies they have learnt in year 2 so far. We are very proud of them!
