Central idea: People have a responsibility to understand how to look after living things (plants).
Sports Day on Tuesday 17th June at 9am
We have had a really exciting start to line of inquiry 1 where we have been exploring different types of plants. We have explored our school grounds to identify different types of flowers and trees.
"I know this is an oak tree because it has curvy leaves."
"Wildflowers grow on their own. Garden flowers have to be planted by humans."
We then thought about plants that we might see across the world. Using our map skills, we labelled where we might find plants such as a cactus, palm tree, banana tree and a lily.
"Some plants grow in tropical places because they have to grow where it is hot. The cactus can grow in hot places because it keeps water it its leaves."
We carefully looked at the parts of a plant and thought about what their functions are.
"The roots keep the plants in the ground. The roots suck up the water and the nutrients."
"The leaves turn sunshine into food for the plant."
In maths we have been learning about directional language. The children have used their communication skills to describe whether something is above, below, to the left or right of an object. We also ran in races, using our knowledge of ordinal numbers to identify which teams came first, second, third and fourth.
