Central idea: People with different beliefs may struggle for rights and freedoms.
We’ve been busy in Year 5! Our new inquiry is all about how people with different beliefs may struggle for rights and freedoms. We’ve been talking about human rights and children’s rights, and even found out what Parliament is and why it’s important.
In English, we’ve started reading The Boy at the Back of the Class. Everyone is really enjoying getting to know Ahmet, and we’ve been writing diary entries as if we were him – it’s helping us to imagine what life might feel like in his shoes.
In Maths, we’ve been working on place value and learning how to read and understand big numbers. We have been building confidence in working with large numbers, identifying the value of each digit, and have now begun learning how to round numbers accurately.
It’s been a great start to the term – Year 5 are asking brilliant questions, showing lots of empathy, and working really hard.
