Central idea: Exploring identity can develop a sense of belonging.
It has been a busy and exciting start to the term! We have had lots of fun and the children have demonstrated what fantastic learners they all are. We delved into deeper thinking with our sustainable goals and the children created their own 'tippy taps'. Miss Lister and I were really impressed with how the children worked together in order to make a working tap from just a collection of sticks, string and a milk bottle. Their thinking about the importance of clean water and sanitation was really impressive!
In our inquiry, the children have begun looking at the word identity and what this means, linking into what makes them who they are. They have created their own half face self portrait from a photograph image taken with their chromebook, linking shading techniques in the genre of our artist Monica Lee. We will continue exploring their uniqueness and have the other half of their face represented pictorially with the activities and things special to them.
In maths, we have been looking at writing numbers in different forms, specifically words. We have also spent lots of time on flexible partitioning with numbers to 100.
In English, the children have been writing character descriptions, writing in different roles and we are moving onto sequencing a story in preparation for their own narrative. They have loved delving into our core text 'Croc and Bird', two characters who think they are brothers, despite their differences.
Please can we take this opportunity to advise that PE is going to be on a Monday and a Friday, so we would very much appreciate the children having their kit in school; this is a change from Tuesday and Friday as previously advised.
