The kids (all but one) want homework- I know I was shocked!
Starting next week I will give the kids a homework packet. I will give it to them on Friday's and it will be due the following Friday.
In language arts this week we read Country Mouse & City Mouse. The kids learned that a fable is a fiction story with animal characters that talk and act like people do and that it has a lesson at the end. They had to analyze different versions of the same fable to compare the points of view of different characters. We also started some Social Skills Activities- Through a variety of discussions and activities students will learn that there are many things for them to think about when they are at school- like what to do, what to say to both kids and adults, who to hang out with, and rules at school. We will continue these activities over the next few weeks.
In math we completed another unit. The kids had to compare and order whole numbers to 1,000 using the symbols for less than, equal to, or greater than (<, =, >) . We started a new math unit that the kids have to recognize, describe, and extend patterns.
In social studies this week the kids did a lot of work with coordinates. This is something they did well with!
Next week we will finish up with our map skills lessons with talking about the continents and oceans.
In science this week we did a Mystery Science "Why does the Moon change shape?" This lesson explores why the Moon seems to change shape (phases) over the course of a month. In the activity, Model the Moon's Phases, students use a styrofoam ball as a model of the Moon and a flashlight as a model of the Sun to gain a better understanding of how the interactions between the Sun and Moon are responsible for the Moon’s phases.
Next week we will start talking about the planets
