Wednesday 12/24-Friday 1/2: No School for Holiday Break
In language arts we did a spelling unit. The unit focus was: review short vowel words & pell long vowel words with silent e.
In math we completed a Geometry unit. The kids had to sort and classify plane and solid objects. We started a Numbers and Operations unit that we will finish next week.
In social studies this week we took our quiz on the South Atlantic States.
In science this week we started to learn about stars and constellations. We also did Mystery Science Mini Lesson "Is every snowflake different?" In this mini-lesson, students explore how snowflakes form and discover that while no two snowflakes are identical, snowflakes do have certain features in common! In the activity, Snowflake Designers, students create their own snowflake models, then compare and contrast their models to real snowflakes!

In language arts we did two Mystery Writing Lessons. The first was a guided lesson and the second was an independent lesson. They were both narrative writing and the kids had to learn characteristics of the narrative genre, identify parts of a narrative, and use their imagination to come up with the end of a narrative.
In math we completed an Numbers and Operations unit. The kids had to use ordinal numbers.
In social studies this week we will learn about the last South Atlantic State. We will do a review on these states and quiz next week.
In science this week we learned about the Milky Way Solar System and put the planets in the solar system in order. Next week we will learn about stars.
