Longitudinal data indicate students need additional intervention and support to improve their academic reading, writing, and organization.  This becomes most evidence when students take ACC Biology and Environmental Studies courses. Science courses at MECHS must be intentional in their pedagogical practices to explicitly boost these skills and prepare students for the rigors of a college-level course. In addition to curriculum resources, the Science department at MECHS explicitly teach:

• Note-Taking Skills

• Decoding of Visual Representations (charts, diagrams, etc.)

• Metacognition and Critical Thinking Skills

• Critical Reading Skills

• Organizational skills
