Data over the last 5 years indicate the need for intervention and support to improve students' conceptual understanding of math principles. Math courses at MECHS must be intentional in their pedagogical practices to explicitly boost these skills and prepare students for the rigors of a college-level course. In addition to curriculum resources, the Math department at MECHS explicitly teach:
Note-Taking Skills (functional notes that adapt to the content area)
Critical Reading and Thinking Skills
Organizational skills
Metacognition
Real-Life Application of Mathematical Concepts
The Math team at MECHS will work collaboratively to implement research-based instructional strategies (RBIS) to improve vertical alignment and balance student's procedural and conceptual understanding.
