Hommocks Middle School

Choral Program

Welcome to the Hommocks Middle School Choral Program! The program is comprised of the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade choirs, as well as the before-school choral groups, Hommocks Singers and HaVoC (a Capella). Regularly scheduled choral classes totaling over 400 students rehearse every other day. Here at Hommocks, the choral program affords students great opportunities for musical exploration and expression. The program aims to establish a welcoming community, and provide musical opportunities for all students with a commitment to quality.

In order to accomplish this vision, students engage in a variety of activities designed to facilitate music literacy while improving vocal ability. Students work in an atmosphere where they feel empowered to do well as individuals, as well succeed as a group of performers. As a result, students demonstrate mindfulness, commitment to teamwork, self-discipline, dependability, and respect.

Each choral group performs its own repertoire at concerts. More challenging material is introduced as the year progresses, and as students move from the 6th grade, through the 7th and 8th-grade choral programs. The skill of reading music is gradually introduced and is ultimately necessary to perform increasingly challenging and interesting repertoire. Improving skills and gaining confidence in using the voice as a musical instrument, beyond that of an average singer is the objective. A great feeling of pride, belonging, and accomplishment awaits students who joins the Hommocks Middle School Choral Program.
