"HaVoc," the 'Hommocks A Cappella Voice Crackers,' was founded in September 2017 by 8th graders Rayeed Rahman and Ari Kass-Amsterdam. The group, originally consisting of 27 students, made its debut at the winter concert that year, performing Sweet Dreams and Adiemus. Since then, the ensemble has grown immensely—today, we are 80 voices strong! The group reflects the diversity of our student body. While diversity itself is not the sole aim, we ensure that each student feels a strong sense of belonging and inclusion in every aspect of the music-making process. The group has since been rebranded as "Havoc" since we now perform both a cappella and accompanied pieces.
Auditions & Membership
Havocis open to ALL 7th and 8th-grade students who are members of other performing ensembles. Auditions are held in Junefor the following school year. Requirements are made available well in advance of audition dates. Students may sing Happy Birthday or My Country 'Tis of Thee, and echo melodic and rhythmic patterns.
Students will be given a Course Description at the first rehearsal. Families will read, discuss, and sign the aforementioned documents. We underscore that all students are expected to be on time and present at all performances in school or otherwise.
Updated Rehearsal Schedule
Havoc meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:10 AM to 8:05 AM. Students enter the building using the Pool Entrance to attend rehearsals in the Choir Room, W204.
