Hommocks Singers is an auditioned 6th grade choral ensemble that meets at 7:15 on Friday mornings and once a week during lunch. The ensemble is open to students who take band, orchestra, or choir. This ensemble creates an opportunity for band and orchestra students to sing and for choir students to sing music at a higher difficulty level.
In Hommocks Singers, students build on healthy singing techniques by focusing on posture, breath support, tone, and diction. They develop part independence by singing in three parts. Music literacy is an integral component of every rehearsal, where students expand their rhythm skills using Gordon syllables and enhance their musicality through solfege syllables and Kodaly/Curwen hand signs.
Hommocks Singers is not just a choir; it is a vibrant community and a family that fosters connection and collaboration among its members. This sense of community plays a vital role in our activities, as we support one another both musically and personally. Each singer brings unique talents and perspectives, creating an environment where everyone feels valued and heard. Together, we celebrate our individual and collective growth, building lasting friendships and shared memories through music. By emphasizing teamwork and mutual respect, we cultivate a nurturing atmosphere that encourages every member to thrive and develop their skills while contributing to the harmony of our group.
