About

The course is integrated with the tools and learning resources at MakeHaven, and is the perfect launching pad for becoming comfortable and competent in continuing work in all areas of the makerspace.

The people who run the course, and the students who take the course.

MakeHaven is hosting the Foundations of Fabrication course for the first time ever.

A course to teach the skills of a Fab Lab to anyone who needs to work around a schedule.

It takes a lot to be a learner, especially in adulthood. We hope that everyone can bring an open mind to MakeHaven and the Foundations of Fabrication course.

We've collected a few perspectives that we value. These attitudes will be helpful for ensuring that we are all in the right state of mind for teaching and learning from each other. These values also reflect MakeHaven's broader Guiding Principles.

Students will each be asked to make a final project at the end of the course. This can take many forms, but it offers the student to do two things: 1) Showcase their learning in an integrated way that priorities showcasing skill integration rather than hitting checkboxes 2) Students to express their creativity and personality, because we believe that designing and building a personal project is a way to make our creativity and individuality manifest for others to see and appreciate.

Student Portfolio of Work + Certificate

One of the most powerful benefits of this course will be the aggregate of each student's work, assembled in a portfolio. With the documentation for each project, students will finish the course with a portfolio they can be proud of building. The individual projects will show their skills, and the documentation will communicate that any time it is to their advantage: for memory, job hunting or bragging rights đŸ˜‰

Certificate from MakeHaven

JR, Corey and MakeHaven are excited to be conferring a certificate for the students that finish this course in totality. This documentation should serve as a recognizable confirmation of each student's skill that can be built into resume line-items or an efficient way to communicate a level of skill that is institutionally recognized.

Every person in the room is both a learner and a teacher.
