The Nurse of the Future will minimize risk of harm to patients and providers through both system effectiveness and individual performance [QSEN, 2007].
There are many different aspects to safety in the healthcare world, from patient safety and to doing no harm, to keeping hospital staff safe, as well as the families of patients safe. Safety has to be one of the top priorities of every healthcare organization. We are seeing very different times with the increase of drug use in patients as well as mental health issues or the mix of both. I know that at our hospital we had to renovate our front entrance to the Emergency Department so that it added an additional layer of protection for our staff with the use of passkey electronic lock. We have mandatory trainings, on how to deal with patients when things escalate and perhaps they the patient becomes out of control, becoming a risk to themselves or other staff. Other trainings are on workplace hazards which include sharp, lifting policies, chemical hazards and fall risks. All of these things can only work together if we as team members work together for one common goal, THE PATIENT
You will find that I have 4 articles attached some are certifications that I have earned currently as well as a paper that I am very passionate about in regards to safe staffing and how we are in a critical crisis level. I believe that because of my classes in the BSN program
Staffing shortage is a huge issue at most hospitals. I am proud of this paper that speaks of the different aspects of how the staffing issue is at a crisis level and how it not only impacts our patient that we are caring for but also has an impact on us as well.
