By the end of this section, you will be able to:
- Define Gibbs free energy, and describe its relation to spontaneity
- Calculate free energy change for a process using free energies of formation for its reactants and products
- Calculate free energy change for a process using enthalpies of formation and the entropies for its reactants and products
- Explain how temperature affects the spontaneity of some processes
- Relate standard free energy changes to equilibrium constants
The resources below are provided to aid you in your mastery of course content. None of it is 'required,' so to speak. It is all provided for you to use as you wish. As we will be doing a lot of small group work in class, it is HIGHLY recommended that you read the text, look through the slides, and watch these videos BEFORE we cover them in lecture. The worksheets provided here will make up much of the basis of our in-class work.
