Brønsted-Lowry Acids and Bases
Acid/Base Equilibria.1 - Brønsted-Lowry Acids and Bases
By the end of this section, you will be able to:
- Identify acids, bases, and conjugate acid-base pairs according to the Brønsted-Lowry definition
- Write equations for acid and base ionization reactions
- Use the ion-product constant for water to calculate hydronium and hydroxide ion concentrations
- Describe the acid-base behavior of amphiprotic substances
The resources below are provided to aid you in your mastery of course content. None of it is 'required,' so to speak. It is all provided for you to use as you wish. As we will be doing a lot of small group work in class, it is HIGHLY recommended that you read the text, look through the slides, and watch these videos BEFORE we cover them in lecture. The worksheets provided here will make up much of the basis of our in-class work.
Slides are the raw material from which I build my lectures. Actual in class lecture slides may end up quite different. The slides provided here are intended to provide an introduction to the material before we cover it in lecture. (Annotated slides will be provided after lecture.)
When available, Reading Guides are provided to assist you in taking and organizing notes as you read the textbook.
Recorded lectures are from other chemistry education professionals.
