After selecting a course from either the My Courses widget, or the Waffle button, you will be taken to that course’s Homepage. Some professors will customize the arrangement of their course’s Homepage. Generally the page will prominently display the Announcements widget.
Your professor will use the Announcements widget to post important, timely information. In addition to being displayed on the course landing page, Announcements are also emailed to your maine.edu email account.
The dark blue bar across the top of the page is called the Navbar. The links and menus on the Navbar can be used to browse different areas of your course, or take you to important university support services and policies. If you are on a mobile device, the Navbar will instead display as the Navbar Mobile Menu in the upper-left corner of the screen. In either case, the same links will be located here. It is safe for you to assume that any mention of the Navbar in this guide applies to the Navbar Mobile Menu as well.
Below is a description of each item in the Navbar or Navbar Mobile Menu.
Takes you back to the current course’s homepage.
Takes you to the course’s Content view. See the next section for more info.
Links to USM services & policies, library resources, and the Class Progress tool that gives you an overview of your activity and accomplishments in the course.
Contains links to the activity tools in the course. You can see lists of all Assignments, Discussions, Quizzes, and find out how you did on graded activities.
Contains links to various tools. Probably the most important one is My Media which will take you to the list of videos you’ve uploaded to USM’s media platform, Kaltura.
Contains links to help you use Brightspace and also contains a link back to this very guide. There is also a link to the IT helpdesk website in case you need technical support.
