Using the Video Note Feature

The simplest way to make a video or audio post is to use Brightspace's built-in Video Note feature. While this is very quick and convenient, videos recorded this way are limited to 30 minutes in duration and are automatically deleted by the system after 6 months.

Remember: Video Notes are limited to 30 minutes and are automatically deleted after 6 months! Keep reading for a more permanent option.

Click the Insert Stuff button to add Video Notes and all sorts of other media to your posts.

Click Add Video Note in the Insert Stuff pop-up.

You can either record a video by selecting the New Recording button, or upload one you previously recorded with the Upload File button.

Recording & Inserting a Kaltura Video into your Post

Kaltura is USM's platform for recording and storing video and audio. Unlike the Video Notes described in the previous section, Kaltura videos can be as long as you need them to be are not automatically deleted after 6 months. The downside is Kaltura is a bit less convenient than the Video Notes feature. For more information on using Kaltura, please see our separate Kaltura Guide for Students.

Once have a video in Kaltura, you can add Kaltura media to any textbox in Brightspace that has an "insert stuff" button on it.

Inserting a Video You Recorded in Another App on your Device

If you already recorded a video using your computer or smartphone, you can upload it to Brightspace as a Video Note. Simply follow the steps in the first section. When you reach Step 3, instead of recording a new video, select the Upload File button.

Adding Videos from Other Websites (YouTube, etc)

If you have video posted to another website, such as YouTube, you can also add those to your posts. Pretty much any site that provides you with an embed code should work. Simply follow the steps in the first section. When you reach Step 2, instead of selecting Add Video Note, select either YouTube or Enter Embed Code.
