THE HISTORY OF SHU-TE
Shu-Te Home Economics & Commercial High School in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan, Republic of China, was established as Shu-Te Junior High School by Mrs. Pei-Yu Chu Chang in 1964, who took her first term as the Principal.
In 1967, the school became a senior high school and a senior curriculum was set up. In 1968, the business and home economics divisions were attached. In 1970, the night school was established at the same location.
In 1973, the home economics division was established and the following departments were set up: General Home Economics, Early Childhood Education, textile and clothing. An attached kindergarten was set up in 1974. In 1975, the General Commercial Accounting & Statistics and International Trade Departments were added to the business division. In 1977, the Beauty and Make-up Department was set up in the home economics division. The school then became a vocational high school and changed its name to Shu-Te Girls’ Home Economics & Commercial High School.
In 1987, practical skills curriculum was set up. In 1988, computer and art courses were separated from the General Commercial Department and established as two different departments: Computer Science and Interior Design; and Food & Beverage Management Department was set up in the same year.
In 1989, Principal Chu Chang retired and Mr. Fu-Peng Lee was appointed by the Board of Directors to the position of Principal. In 1989, in order to cooperate with some businesses and provide on the job training, cooperative courses were established. In 1990, the Business English Department and the Business Japanese Department were added. In 1991, a beauty and make-up course which included on-the-job training and the adult education courses were offered. Because the food and beverage industry was getting popular in the region, the school started to set up the Food & Beverage Department in 1989 to meet the needs of the community.
In 1993, the experimental music class officially separated from the Early Childhood Education Department and became the Music Department offering general high school courses, and in the same year, the Business English Department and the Business Japanese Department were changed into the Applied Foreign Language Department (English and Japanese Divisions).
In 1994, the new Department of Tourism was added to our school program and the Accounting & Statistics Department was dissolved. For the future development of school, the Board decided to admit some boys into the Departments of Food & Beverage and Tourism. In the same year, a new administrative department, the cooperative education center was set up to meet the increasing demand for the continuing education and educational cooperation with industry.
In 1996, our school began to establish a comprehensive senior high.
In 1997, Principal Fu-Peng Lee retired from the position of Principal and became the Chairman of the Board. Mr. Leh-Yee Shang was appointed by the Board of Directors to the position of Principal.
In 1998, the textile and clothing Department upgraded course content and established the Modeling class and the Clothes Marketing class.
In 1999, we added the Composite Function Department.
In 2000, we added the Distribution Department and canceled the International Trade Department. Besides, the Interior Design Department was changed into the Advertisement Design Department.
In 2001, we discontinued the Music major.
In 2002, Principal Shang retired and Ms. Hong Tsai-Yun was appointed by the Board of Directors to the position of Principal.
In 2012, Principal Hong retired and Mr. Chen Mow-Ling was appointed by the Board of Directors to the position of Principal. We dissolved the Continuous Education Center in the same year.
In 2012, we discontinued Extension Education Center, and the work was handed to Practicum and Internship Division.
On December first, 2015, the Department of Performing Art was approved officially to recruit students of day school and night school.
On March 25th, 2016, the Department of Performing Technique was approved officially to recruit students.
IIn 2012, we discontinued Extension Education Center, and the work was handed to Practicum and Internship Division.

In 2017, we set up Department of Performing Art, Department of Practical Performing Skills and Department of Practical Beautifying Skills.
In 2018, we set up Department of Caring Services, Department of Chinese Cuisine Chef. and Department of Practical Film Skills.
In 2019, following 2019 Curriculum Guideline, Applied Foreign Language Department (English and Japanese Divisions) was renamed as Applied English Department and Applied Japanese Department.
In 2019, we set up Department of Practical Baking.
In 2021, Principal Chen Mow-Ling retired and Ms. Chen Ching-Mei was appointed by the Board of Directors to the position of Principal.
In 2024, we set up Department of Pet Management.
Now, the school has: Departments of Business Management, Data Processing, Applied English, Applied Japanese, Advertisement Design, Food & Beverage Management, Tourism, Early Childhood Education, Caring Services, Sewing, Cosmetology, and Performing Arts.
To enhance international cultural exchanges, Shu-Te has established sister school relationships with many schools in different countries, such as Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom. Pursuing excellence is always our goal.
Our school has started educational partnership with Cheng Shiu University, Shu-Te University, Southern Taiwan University of Technology, Tainan University of Technology, Tajen University, Kao Yuan University, Meiho University, Chung Hwa University of Medical Technology, Hung Kuang University, Ling Tung University, Shu-Zen College of Medicine and Management, Tzu-Hui Institute of Technology, Far East University, Chien Kuo Technology University, Fooyin University, National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality, National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism, National Pengtung University of Science and Technology, Wen-Zao Ursuline University of Languages, I-Shou University, National Pingtung University, Kun Shan University, Chia Nan University of Pharmacy & Science, Dayeh University, Vanung University, Taipei City University of Science & Technology, TPCU, Chungyu University of Film and Arts「CUFA」and National Taichung University of Science and Technology in long term since December, 2000.
