Specific Approaches

These are specific types of therapy I've pursued additional training in.

Each of these has significant research proving their effectiveness.

EMDR is an approach to healing many mental health conditions. It stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. I have spent extra time and money beyond the basic training in EMDR other clinicians have to get certified in this approach. My hours of consultation with EMDR experts has been with an attachment focus.

That means we talk about how our earliest relationships helped shape our thinking and how we deal with emotions. Often when you see the same patterns across your relationships, this comes back to an early attachment rupture, or a time when someone wasn’t quite there for you the way you needed them to be.

This happens in every family and is not unique to those with PTSD. Starting with these early memories often helps people resolve their issues much more quickly than talk therapy alone.

I offer EMDR in a weekly format as well as intensive format.

Gottman Couples Counseling

John Gottman is a psychologist who can predict whether or not a couple will divorce with over 90% accuracy. He and his wife Julie (also a psychologist) have developed research based techniques to keep your relationship alive. I’ve been trained in 2 levels of this therapy.

I show the video below to most couples early in therapy to see what you can relate with. If this sounds like you, let’s get to work on helping you change those patterns.

Parent Child Interaction Therapy

I currently do not practice PCIT due to the specific office space needs. I am happy to refer you to other clinicians who are practicing PCIT.

Parent Child Interaction Therapy is a research based model for working with kids ages 2-7 years old with problematic behaviors. The therapy focuses on the parents' way of dealing with the child’s behavior more than on the child. This is not a play therapy. If you’re looking for someone to work one on one with your young child, I am probably not the best fit. If you are looking for someone to give YOU the tools to be the therapeutic presence in your child’s life, that I can help you with. Click here to learn more about PCIT: www.pcit.org
