Responsible Consumption and Production
Responsible Consumption and Production
The 12th Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) is centered around the responsible uptake and use of materials from our natural environment and the responsible release of materials and byproducts into the natural environment. This SDG primarily addresses...
12.2 - Resource use
12.3 - Food loss and waste
12.4 - Chemical and waste management
12.5 - Waste reduction
(12.2) Many cities throughout Arizona have implemented restrictions on water use and uptake as their natural water sources have become increasingly limited.
(12.3) Cities such as Los Angeles have committed to the C40 Good Food Cities Declaration, which commits the city to working with citizens, businesses, public institutions, and other organizations in order to reduce food waste by 50% since 2015.
Muskegon in the recent decade has done considerable effort to limit the effects of poor waste management and overconsumption on their surroundings, primarily focused on Muskegon Lake and cleaning up long standing issues left over from previous decades of misuse. Such as the 80-million-dollar cleanup of industrial toxins, which now leaves Heritage Landing as a memorial.
However, there is still considerable work to be done, with over 40 areas still being identified for cleanup. Overall this leaves Muskegon with very large steps that still need to be taken to clean up and gurantee little to no health concerns.
(12.4) PFAS contaminated ground water has been discovered at the Muskegon County Airport and is leaching into Mona Lake. A full and effective treatment of this groundwater and now Mona Lake as well needs to be implemented to prevent further damage and contamination.
SDG 2 (Zero Hunger): Food security and food waste.
SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being): Better management of chemicals, and other wastes, to try to help minimize a poor effect on human. health
SDG 4 (Quality Education): Educate and inform students about sustainable development.
SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation): Inspire an increase of recycling within people, it is also giving safe reuse of water. Also, a reduced release of chemicals into the waters keeping them cleaner and safer for people and animals.
SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure): Making more industries more sustainable and more efficient. Taking on a more clean and environmentally safe technology.
SDG 13 (Climate Action): Helping to make people more aware of their choices and how they can somewhat affect the climate. Help to educate people about climate change.
SDG 15 (Life on Land): Sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources.
