HCT 61 - Introduction to Healthcare

Course Information

HCT 61 provides an overview of the evolution of medicine and health care delivery. Development and organization of health care professions, including health information management and medical assisting. Emphasis on inpatient, outpatient, and physician office record content; numbering and filing systems; and electronic health record adoption. This is a highly interactive face-to-face class. Students have many opportunities to collaborate with one another, enjoy in-class learning activities and interact with the instructors.

This class follows the SF-IBEST (San Francisco Module Integrated Basic Education Skills Training) technique. This education modules involves two instructors that team-teach the course. The HIT instructor (Ziemba) is responsible for content and the ESL instructor (Helmy) is responsible for supporting basic communication skills.

Students learn not only the basics of health care delivery but also gain valuable presentation skills, written and spoken English competence and cooperative. teamwork. Assessments and many assignments are delivered online via Canvas. Other exciting assignments and activities are completed in class or initiated in class and completed online.

This is a face-to-face class with significant tech-enhancement.
