LOCs= Later Order Concerns
“Later Order Concerns” or LOCs are the sentence-level and more detail-oriented issues in writing, especially related to grammar, sentence structure, and mechanics. As you know, carelessness in these areas can have a major impact on how a piece of writing is received by readers.
Start with HOCs, not LOCs! If you jump ahead and get involved in sentence-level editing and proofreading (LOCs) too soon, you can lose sight of this bigger picture. You might even find yourself spending a long time reworking a few sentences or a paragraph, only to discover later that you don’t need to include it.
