Meet College Admissions Representatives Right Here at MHS!
Starting Tuesday, September 9, 2025 - December 2025
The MHS School Counseling Department is excited to host a College Mini-Fair Program, where College Admissions Representatives visit MHS to connect directly with our students with over 100 colleges/universities participating.
From September through December, this program offers a unique opportunity for students to learn more about colleges and universities in a personalized setting. Students can meet with Admissions Representatives, ask questions about academic programs, campus life, scholarships, and more!
For Seniors, these visits can be especially valuable, as many of the Admissions Representatives visiting may be involved in evaluating college applications.
Don’t miss this chance to make a meaningful impression, make connections with College Admissions Representatives, and gather important insights into your college options!

Dear Seniors Class of 2026, and Parents and Guardians:
Happy Fall! As October unfolds, we want to remind you how proud we are of your hard work, determination, and growth. This is an exciting and busy month full of opportunities to take key steps toward your future—whether that includes college, career training, military service, or other plans. It’s college application season and the kick off to your post-secondary journey! We’re here to help you with your post-secondary planning and talk through your options!
The MHS Counseling Department has created a comprehensive program to support you in your journey toward graduation, post-secondary planning, and college and career exploration. Please take time to explore dedicated pages on this site to support your post-secondary planning, college and career exploration, and the college application process throughout your Senior Year.

Seniors - You got this! Stay organized and take action for post-secondary planning and the college application process. As a reminder, Junior year is the last full year of courses and final grades that will appear on transcripts that go out with your college applications. Your transcript will also include your Senior year Courses in progress. During your individual Senior Conference, your School Counselor will meet with you to review your transcript, discuss your post-secondary plans and review the college application process. This is a work session! Please ensure you schedule your Senior Conference with your School Counselor!

Build & Finalize Your College List: Continue to research and build your college list.
Make sure your “Colleges I’m Applying To” list in Naviance is accurate and up to date - that your list includes all of the colleges you are applying to with the correct deadline dates.
Begin or Continue to Work on your Applications! Pay Attention to Deadlines:
If you are thinking about applying to college, whether Early Action or Early Decision, many have an October 15th, November 1st and/or a November 15th deadline.
Create your Common Application Account! The Common Application opened for the Class of 2026 on August 1! (Please see details listed in our topics section below to support you.) Please also Refer to our "MHS Common Application FAQ" while completing your "Common Application General Application."
Request Teacher Letters of Recommendations through Naviance at least 3 weeks before your deadline date.
Write and Revise your College Essays: Check out The Common Application's 2025-2026 Essay prompts! Your personal statement is your chance to tell your story! You can ask for feedback from your English Teacher & your School Counselor!
The Self-Reported Transcript and Academic Record System (STARS) (formerly SSAR/SRAR): If applicable, make sure that you complete the STARS per the college application deadline requirement or as communicated to you by the college.
Consider making a “college-admissions only” email address if you haven't already.
SAT/ACT EXAMS:
Register for Fall SAT and/or ACT exams if needed. ** Be mindful of Registration Deadlines!
Double-check whether your colleges are test-optional or require scores.
If you plan to report your scores, please send your official SAT/ACT/AP scores to your universities/colleges directly through the College Board/ACT. Please Note: MHS does not send SAT/ACT scores to colleges. MHS does not post SAT/ACT or AP Exam scores on the MHS transcript.

SENIOR CONFERENCES: STARTING MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 15th, 2025
IT'S TIME TO SCHEDULE YOUR SENIOR CONFERENCE WITH YOUR SCHOOL COUNSELOR!!
SENIOR CONFERENCES: Senior Individual Work Session with your School Counselor:
We ask all Seniors to make an appointment to meet with your School Counselor for your individual Senior Conference.
During this conference, your School Counselor will meet with you to review your transcript, discuss your post-secondary plans, review the college application process, college lists compiled by students, requirements, the Common Application and much more. THIS IS A WORK SESSION! Students should bring their Chromebook and be able to access their Common Application account. It is recommended to schedule your Senior Conference during a free period or after school (2:05 p.m.). Senior conferences are generally a duration of one class period.

COLLEGE PROFILE SURVEY IN NAVIANCE:
Your "College Profile Survey" is required in order for your School Counselor to write your letter of recommendation for the college application process.
IN NAVIANCE: The "College Profile Survey" in Naviance is found under “Tasks from My School” button on the bottom right of the homepage. There is a student and parent section that must be completed.
If you have not done so already, please complete your “College Profile Survey” in Naviance ASAP.
September Senior Year: When you return in September of your Senior Year, you will be having an individual Senior Conference meeting with your School Counselor to discuss your post-secondary plans and review the college application process. *Please note: Your College Profile Survey in Naviance must be completed prior to your Senior Individual Conference meeting with your School Counselor.

Requesting Teacher Letters of Recommendations For College Applications:
Decide which teacher you would like to ask for a letter of recommendation for your college applications. Be sure to select a teacher that knows you well! As discussed in the Junior Conference, it is recommended that you choose a teacher from your Junior Year.
IN NAVIANCE: Request your (1) Teacher Letter of Recommendation. Go to Colleges/Apply to College/Letters of Recommendation. Click on “Add Request.” First identify the teacher that you would like to ask from the drop down menu. Choose the “All Current/Future Colleges” option and be sure to include a personal note in the box provided. Add to Naviance at least 3 weeks before your College Application Deadline.
IMPORTANT: ONCE SCHOOL BEGINS:
If you did NOT previously speak to your teacher to ask for/request a letter of recommendation during Junior year: Once school begins: Please see your teacher in person to ask for/request a letter of recommendation!
If you HAVE already spoken to your teacher to ask for/request a letter of recommendation during June year: Once school begins: You will follow up with your teacher in person. At that time, you will give the teacher your completed “Teacher Letter of Recommendation (TLOR) Request form” that your School Counselor will provide to you. See your School Counselor for the "TLOR Request Form."
COLLEGE APPLICATION DEADLINES & REMINDERS:
*Remember to check your email, create your college portal accounts and check your college portals regularly as this is how most colleges communicate and send application status updates. If you have any questions, please contact your School Counselor.
Please review & confirm your College Application Deadlines in Naviance: If you have a change of deadline date or you add a new College/University, it must be placed in Naviance no later than 2 weeks prior to the application deadline date. Additionally, please inform your School Counselor if you add a new College/University to your list in Naviance.
Keep Naviance Up To Date: Make sure your “Colleges I’m Applying To” list in Naviance is accurate and up to date - that your list includes all of the colleges you are applying to with the correct deadline dates. This is to ensure that your school documents (e.g., transcript, letters of recommendation) are submitted on time.

REMINDER: Sending/Reporting SAT/ACT Scores to Colleges/Universities:
If you plan to report your scores, please send your official SAT/ACT/AP scores to your universities/colleges directly through the College Board/ACT.
SAT and/or ACT SCORES MUST BE SUBMITTED BY YOUR COLLEGE APPLICATION DEADLINES.

The Self-Reported Transcript and Academic Record System (STARS) (formerly SSAR/SRAR) is a platform that allows students to submit their academic history directly to participating colleges and universities. Through STARS, you can report:

Certain Colleges require the STARS to be completed.

COLLEGE BOARD BLUEBOOK APPLICATION: The College Board “Bluebook Application” is a testing application from the College Board. Students use the Bluebook Application to take the digital SAT as well as for other digital College Board Exams like the PSAT & AP exams.

FEE WAIVERS
If you receive Free & Reduced Lunch, you may be eligible for a reduced fee for SAT/ACT exams, College Application fees, and College Concurrent Enrollment Application fees. A "Consent to Release Information" form must be completed.
See your School Counselor for information regarding eligibility, fee waivers, and the "Consent to Release Information" form.

Students with disabilities must apply for special testing accommodations for College Board/ACT exams. Please allow approximately 7 weeks for College Board and ACT to process the request for accommodations.
College Board Exams: In order to take a College Board Exam with accommodations, a student must be approved for accommodations by the College Board's Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) office and have received an SSD number.
To receive accommodations, you must apply with the College Board. You must complete and submit a "College Board Consent Form for Accommodations Request (for students with Disabilities)" and submit to your School Counselor.
To Apply for Accommodations for the ACT: You must apply for accommodations directly with ACT. Please note: If you would like to apply for testing accommodations for the ACT, you must indicate that when registering online for the exam. After you register, you will receive an email that you must forward to your School Counselor. You also need to provide a completed "Consent to Release Information to ACT (PDF) form and submit it to nyour School Counselor.

Dear Juniors Class of 2027, and Parents and Guardians:
We hope that you have had a great start to the school year! Welcome to your Junior Year! Your School Counseling Department wants to remind you that Junior year is a critical time to start planning for life after high school—whether you're considering college, career training, the military, or entering the workforce. We want to highlight and share with you some important information and reminders to support you in your post-secondary goals and staying on track. Please refer to important information, dates, reminders and next steps to keep in mind listed in our “announcements” section below. Additionally, please don’t forget to check out upcoming events in our “upcoming events for all” section above.
The MHS Counseling Department has created a comprehensive program to support you in your journey toward graduation, post-secondary planning, and college and career exploration. Please take time to explore dedicated pages on this site to support your post-secondary planning, college and career exploration, and the college application process throughout your Junior and Senior Year.

As a reminder, Junior year is the last full year of courses and final grades that will appear on transcripts that go out with your college applications. It is important to show that you are focused on academic success while also maintaining your involvement in extracurricular activities.
Juniors-Let’s start exploring! We want to highlight and share with you some important information, reminders, and goals to keep in mind to support you in staying on track with your post-secondary goals:
Start Thinking About Your Future Path: Explore careers that match your interests and strengths. You can begin researching colleges, military options, technical/trade schools, or other post-secondary options.
Focus on Academics: Junior year grades are very important—your grade point average will be calculated at the end of your junior year which includes grades 9-11. Stay organized and seek help early if you're struggling in any classes. Seek extra help or STEP after school if needed.
Update Your Resume / Activity List: Begin tracking your extracurriculars, volunteer work, jobs, and leadership roles. This will be helpful for applications, scholarships, and letters of recommendation when it’s time for College Application Season Senior Year.
Plan for Standardized Testing: Consider registering for the PSAT (October)—this is also the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship.
Start thinking about the SAT and/or ACT. (Spring testing). It's good to know your timeline and test registration deadlines.
Check Your Email Regularly & and your Grade Level Google Classroom: Important announcements, College programming events, MHS College Mini Fair visits, and scholarship info etc. will be communicated.
Attend College & Career Events: Watch for upcoming MHS College Programming Events; MHS College Mini-Fairs Program (September-December) College visits to MHS (meet with College Admissions Reps, Military Reps, and Trade School Reps); Fall & Spring Regional College Fairs; Career Events; MHS Counseling Department programs, events, and opportunities!

Explore Naviance: Use Naviance to start to research colleges and career paths. You can start thinking about majors/areas of study in college and career planning that you may be interested in. Go back to Naviance and see your results from your “AchieveWorks Personality Assessment” (10th Grade) and the “Strengths Explorer Assessment” (9th Grade).
Service Learning Graduation Requirement: Engage in Service Learning activities towards meeting the MHS Service Learning Graduation Requirement (minimum 60 Hours). Submit in our Digital Service Learning System in IC!
Let’s make it a great Junior year! Remember, you don’t need to have all the answers right now—but this is the time to start asking questions, exploring options, and setting goals. We’re here every step of the way to assist, guide, and support you for your post-secondary planning, the college research and application processes. This is a very exciting time! COLLEGE BOARD BLUEBOOK APPLICATION: The College Board “Bluebook Application” is a testing application from the College Board. Students use the Bluebook Application to take the digital SAT as well as for other digital College Board Exams like the PSAT & AP exams.
The Bluebook Application has been installed on all MHS Student Chromebooks!

FEE WAIVERS
If you receive Free & Reduced Lunch, you may be eligible for a reduced fee for SAT/ACT exams, College Application fees, and College Concurrent Enrollment Application fees. A "Consent to Release Information" form must be completed.
See your School Counselor for information regarding eligibility, fee waivers, and the "Consent to Release Information" form.

Students with disabilities must apply for special testing accommodations for College Board/ACT exams. Please allow approximately 7 weeks for College Board and ACT to process the request for accommodations.
College Board Exams: In order to take a College Board Exam with accommodations, a student must be approved for accommodations by the College Board's Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) office and have received an SSD number.
To receive accommodations, you must apply with the College Board. You must complete and submit a "College Board Consent Form for Accommodations Request (for students with Disabilities)" and submit to your School Counselor.
To Apply for Accommodations for the ACT: You must apply for accommodations directly with ACT. Please note: If you would like to apply for testing accommodations for the ACT, you must indicate that when registering online for the exam. After you register, you will receive an email that you must forward to your School Counselor. You also need to provide a completed "Consent to Release Information to ACT (PDF) form and submit it to nyour School Counselor.
