Collegiate Athletics

There are many opportunities to play sports while in college and the regulatory organizations that manage college sports and the level of play will vary depending on type of school you choose, your athletic abilities and the organization that school is a member of (public vs private, 4-year vs 2-year).

4-year colleges and universities will be governed by either the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), which include many large, public institutions, or by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), which typically includes the smaller, private institutions.

2-year community college athletic programs are governed by National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

It is important to know that each of these organizations determines student eligibility to play at the college level differently. This means that each organization will have their own entrance requirements, so it will be important to make sure work with your athletic and counseling staff to ensure you are going to meet all of their requirements including gpa and test score standards.
