FFA Competitions and State Winners

                   By:Haylee Cantu

During March, all across the country, FFA chapters will be starting their CDE and LDE contests. You may be asking yourself what is a CDE? A CDE is a Career Development Event. With that, our juniors, and seniors will participate in a contest of their choice.  A LDE is a Leadership Development Event. We have three members competing in LDEs: Lizzy Dameron in creed and Annabelle Wolfe and Andrew Stutlz in speeches.

This year we have a poultry team which consists of Prayton Piercy, Raylee Griffith, Melena Bolman, Avery Carr, and Michael Winn. This year they will be going to NCMC with the poultry team.

Also, this year we had two state winners in FFA for proficiencies: Johnnie Thomas and Sierra Bryson. Johnnie Thomas won  3rd place in Diversified Livestock, while Sierra Bryson won for Specialty Animal Production. They will be walking at the State Convention in April.

              Quiz Bowl Quests

                By: Maddie Wood

The Madison Quiz Bowl team has been very busy lately- traveling from Renick to Slater and a few more places in between. Both the Junior High and High School teams have been working very hard during their weekly practices and saw some great results at their meets last week.

One of their first meets this week was both Junior High and High School versus Cairo. This match took place in Mrs. Ehrett’s classroom on February 6th at 4 PM. The Junior High team unfortunately lost in overtime with a score of 100-110, and the High School team won with a score of 120-60. Then, the following day, the Junior High team traveled to Renick to compete at 4 PM. The Panthers did very well and won their match with a score of 120-40. On February 10th, the Junior High team also competed at the Moberly Youth Scholar’s Tournament in Moberly, where they went three in six in their matches, placing 9th overall against 12 other teams statewide. The competition was tough, but the Panthers stuck through it and came out winning three matches!

Finally, on February 16th both the Junior High and High School teams competed at Slater at 5 PM. Both teams did great; however, unfortunately lost with a close score of 110-140 for Junior High, and an ending score of 70-11 for High School.

Both Quiz Bowl teams have been putting in the work and competing well this last week, with more wins under their belt to prepare for Districts. Coming up, the Quiz Bowl teams will compete against Glasgow on February 27th, Sturgeon on February 28th, and Community R-6 on February 29th. Make sure to show your support for both teams and keep an eye out for updates and scores for their upcoming matches!
