Madison Christmas Program

By: Maddie Wood

As soon as the clock strikes midnight on November 30th, one event immediately comes to mind: Christmas. If you’re anything like me, you look forward to the holiday season all year, and what better way to get into the holiday spirit than Christmas songs? This year, the Madison Christmas Program was held on December 6th, in the school gym.

To kick off the night, Melena Bollman performed the prelude music on her flute. Then, we saw a performance of the song “5 Little Elves”  from the Preschool and Kindergarten classes. After the kids finished performing, they were led off stage and back to their families, which led to a short intermission before the second half of the program.

After the intermission, the audience saw a collaborative performance from 1st through 6th grade, high school choir, high school band, and beginning instrumentals. They performed a musical based off of the book Pete the Cat Saves Christmas where each class had their own role. The 6th grade class acted, or more accurately mimed, each part of the book, while the 5th grade class read the book aloud for the audience.

There were also a few musical interjections throughout the play as well. Every few pages or so the music director, Ms. Prewett, added in fun Christmas songs for the 1st through 6th grade classes to sing. These songs included some classics, as well as some remixes to make the songs relevant to the play. For example, everyone knows the songs “Here Comes Santa Claus” and “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.” However, to stay on theme, the kids performed their versions of the songs, “Here Comes Pete the Cat” and “Pete the Cat is Coming to Town.” They also sang “Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer” which was accompanied by Orion Gordham, and an arrangement of “Give it Your All” from the Pete the Cat book. Finally, to conclude the program, we saw a performance of “Carol of the Bells' ' which was performed by Avery Carr, Orion Gordham, Jacob Jackson, and Ms. Prewett (high school choir).

Our community experienced great performances, ranging from playing instrumentals, to singing Christmas classics, and even a few “Pete the Cat” remixes. Overall, the Christmas Program was a success this year and definitely helped us all to get into the holiday spirit.

Madison FFA Christmas Party

By: Haylee Cantu

Our annual Christmas party was on December 13th at 6:30 PM in the Ag shop.. Our Christmas party lasted from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM. We had l twenty kids show up for snack foods, soda, and pizza. We also had a gift wrapping station, where we wrapped up the Christmas presents we got for our adopt-a-family. FFA members enjoyed cornhole, music, decorated Christmas ornaments and hung them on the tree in Mrs.Havercamp’s room. Then, we had a little gift exchange. Also, we played our annual Saran Wrap game, which always leads to a huge candy fight.

You might be asking what the Saran Wrap game is? It is where Mrs.Havercamp and a few other students make this huge ball with the plastic wrap and candy. She uses a lot of swrap, candy and tape. Also, when we play this game, we have to use welding gloves and dice. You have to roll doubles in order to start unrolling the big ball of goodies. Once the ball is completely unrolled, we have a huge candy fight.  After our assault, we all helped to clean up the  shop.

NHS Induction Ceremony

 By: Logan Hubert

This year the National Honors Society Induction Ceremony took place on December 18th, 2023, at 6 PM in the school gym. Earlier that day, we had a practice run-through during school hours so that the speakers could practice their parts, and so we could make sure the event ran smoothly. Students and staff were also able to watch this practice induction, before we invited the community.

To begin the induction, Abbie Painter gave a short welcome speech, and thanked everyone for coming. It was then followed by readings from our National Honors Society officers and members, about the values and aspects of NHS. The members who spoke were Abbie Painter (President), Alex Harrison (Vice President), Kennedy Duff (Secretary), Jacob Jackson (Treasurer), as well as Abby Dameron and Madeline Wood. After the officers were done presenting their speaking parts, Abbie Painter concluded the ceremony, and welcomed everyone to cupcakes and drinks in the cafeteria.

In conclusion, the ceremony went very well, and we had a great turnout of five returning senior members, seven returning junior members, as well as four new sophomore members, which were all recognized and awarded during the ceremony.
