Our philosophy in Select is that learning is more meaningful when it is applied across more than one subject. When you truly learn a skill, you should be able to use it in more than one area. This is why we encourage you to create projects that can hit more than one target at a time.
When it comes to combining targets, there are a few classes that work better than others. The best class for doing this is English! A typical English course has targets for reading, essays, and presentations. You can combine these targets with just about any other class. You can write essays about topics in business, history, or science. You can do presentations about almost any subject, as well. You could even do a presentation about how to solve a constructed response for math! Finally, if you plan well, you can find articles that you can read that will help you in other subjects, but you can count them as reading in English.
English Honors requires reading entire books. If you are interested in science or business, you could combine those books with a Special Topics in Science, Personal Finance, or a business class.
History is also a great class for combing targets. Not only can you combine with English, you can also combine history targets with other history targets. World history is especially good for doing this. It has several targets that can be combined into one project. Also, if you plan ahead, there are projects you can do to hit targets in history classes from different years. For instance, work you do in US History could be used in Government.
Like History, science also has targets within the same course that can be combined. Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Science are especially good for this. Also, you can combine targets between two science courses, such as between ICP and Chemistry, or between Biology and Environmental Science.
There are many ways to combine targets, deepen your learning, and speed up your progress in Select. Use your imagination, be creative, and don't be afraid to try new things!
