Course: Patient Care Technician (Stutheit)

Topics Discussed: Getting Ready for the Hospital Setting, Professionalism, HIPAA/Safety, Patient priority, Ostomy care, Feeding tubes/aspiration, Edema, Wounds, Fall risk, Skin breakdown, TCDB, Incentive spirometry, Oxygen, ADLs 

Skills Learned: Reviewing all skills for hospital plus new skills: CPR-BLS, Sterile gloving, Stretcher 

2nd 9 Weeks

Course: Internship 1 (Richey)

Topics Discussed: EKG and Patient Care Modules from Certified Patient Care Technician Exam, as well as continuing topics from previous 9 weeks  

Skills Learned: Begin hospital clinical rotations and/or off-campus labs, EKG electrode placement and rhythm strip reading

3rd 9 Weeks

Course: Internship 2A (Richey)

Topics Discussed: Phlebotomy, Infection Control, Patient Compliance/Monitoring/Safety, as well as continuing topics from previous 9 weeks. 

Skills Learned: Continue hospital clinical rotations and/or off-campus labs, phlebotomy procedures (butterfly stick, vacutainer stick, syringe stick), as well as continuing topics from the previous 9 weeks

4th 9 Weeks

Course: Internship 2B (Richey)

Topics Discussed: Studying and preparing to take the Certified Patient Care Technician Exam (reviewing all topics and materials previously covered)

Skills Learned: Continue hospital clinical rotations and/or off-campus labs
