Topics Discussed: Safety, History of Medicine, Healthcare Careers, Legal/Ethical Issues in Healthcare, Fire Safety
Skills Learned: Hand Hygiene, PPE, Fire Extinguisher use, Bedmaking, CPR/First Aid Certification
3rd 9 Weeks
Course: Human Body Structures and Functions (Richey, Stutheit, West)
Topics Discussed: 12 body systems including Body Planes/Cavities/Quadrants/Regions, Cells and Tissues, Skeletal, Muscular, Integumentary, Nervous, Special Senses, and Blood/Lymphatic
Skills Learned: Range of Motion, Vision Screening, Ambulation with assistance
4th 9 Weeks
Course: Human Body Structures and Functions Lab (Richey, Stutheit, West)
Topics Discussed: Continuation of the 12 body systems including respiratory, cardiac, digestive, urinary, endocrine, reproductive
Skills Learned: Radial pulse, respiration, emtpying a foley catheter
First year students will recieve their American Heart Association CPR certification in the form of Heartsaver, which includes AED and First Aid. This initial certification is good for 2 years, at which point the student will need to renew it to keep it active.
The fee for CPR is $12.
