Topics Discussed: Safety, History of Medicine, Healthcare Careers, Legal/Ethical Issues in Healthcare, Fire Safety 

Skills Learned: Entry/Exit Procedures, Hand Hygiene, PPE, Fire Extinguisher use, Bedmaking

2nd 9 Weeks

Course: Diagnostic Services (Richey, West)

Topics Discussed: Diagnostic Procedures (xray, EKG, phlebotomy, swabs, etc), Legal/Ethical Issues, Patient Communication, Medical Math, Diagnostic Careers

Skills Learned: CPR/First Aid Certification, Visual Acuity, Rapid Strep Swab

3rd 9 Weeks

Course: Human Body Structures and Functions (Richey, Stutheit, West)

Topics Discussed: 12 body systems including Body Planes/Cavities/Quadrants/Regions, Cells and Tissues, Skeletal, Muscular, Integumentary, Nervous, Special Senses, and Blood/Lymphatic 

Skills Learned: Range of Motion, Vision Screening, Ambulation with assistance

4th 9 Weeks

Course: Human Body Structures and Functions Lab (Richey, Stutheit, West)

Topics Discussed: Continuation of the 12 body systems including respiratory, cardiac, digestive, urinary, endocrine, reproductive

Skills Learned: Radial pulse, respiration, emtpying a foley catheter 

Heartsaver CPR Certification

First year students will recieve their American Heart Association CPR certification in the form of Heartsaver, which includes AED and First Aid. This initial certification is good for 2 years, at which point the student will need to renew it to keep it active. 

The fee for CPR is $12.
