Welcome to the Medical Library of the University of Tokyo!
Learn how to use the Medical Library and our services.

Before use..., have you registered for UTAS?

If you are a student, all you need to do is to register your email address to the Academic Affairs System (UTAS).
Please bring your IC card student ID to enter the library. 

If you do not use UTAS, please register for library use from our website. 

For those who do not have IC card student ID (e.g., visiting researcher): 
  • A medical library usage card will be issued for you. You can use only the Medical Library with the card.
  • You cannot use the card to enter other libraries, borrow materials, or other services available via the MyOPAC.
  • You can read our descriptions by replacing the word “IC card student ID'' with “a medical library usage card”.

Services Available in the Library

Please follow the etiquettes when in the library. 

Entering the Library

Open: Weekdays 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, Saturdays 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Closed: Sundays, Holidays, last weekday of the month

You can bring your own device to use. 

Multimedia Corner (PLENIUS

)
You can use PCs, printers and your own devices. 

Semi-private booth

5 booths with sound absorption panels and curtains are available. You can use the booth for working alone. The booths are not soundproof, but you can use it for taking online lectures or meeting on Zoom,

Group Study Room

For the time being, please use the room with maximum 6 people due to infection control measures.

You can print a big poster for a conference or etc.

Available without reservations. Printing is a paid service. 

Available with the password. Please ask the clerk about login information at the counter.Coop copy card is required which is available to purchase at the library

Delivery Service on Medical Library Materials

As one of the responding to COVID-19 pandemic, we are currently offering the following services free of charge to help you use our materials without coming to the library. 

⇒The "Receive books at home", "Receive copies by mail for free", and "View free PDF for free" services, which have been offered for a limited time as COVID-19 support, has terminated on March 22, 2023.

Receive Books at the General Library

You can ask to deliver the books of the Medical Library to the General Library.

† You may also deliver the books to Komaba Library and the Kashiwa Library. The  book delivery service to your home has ended on March 22, 2023. 

Receive Copies by Campus mail/in PDF

You can have the copies of the Medical Library materials in either following way:

The photocopying and PDF viewing service for free and mailing service have ended on March 22, 2023

Apply from the button "Copy application/PDF application". 
† Cost covering by the Medical Library has ended on March 22, 2023.

Get Access to E-Journals, E-Books and Databases

The University of Tokyo provides access to various kinds of databases, e-journals and e-books. 

You can find a list of databases at “mainly used electronic resources” on the top page in our website.

This webpage (on website called “ブクログ(Booklog)”) lists some of the e-books purchased at the Medical Library.

mainly used Database for Medicine (1)

PubMed contains citations and abstracts of biomedical literature published in major medical journals around the world. 

You can browse the databases which are available in the University of Tokyo.

mainly used Database for Medicine (2)

A collection of citations of Japanese biomedical literature. You can use this database when you look for articles written in Japanese. 

Database to Search E-Collections

The gateway to search e-journals and e-books available in the University of Tokyo. 


You can browse and search a list of available databases, including the University of Tokyo's members-only database.

Access from Off-Campus Network

Some of the databases licensed by the university are also available to be accessed from off-campus networks.

Request Online & Receive at the Library

Get what you need from other libraries

If the Medical Library doesn’t have what you need, you can either borrow it from other libraries in/out of the University of Tokyo or ask the Medical Library to purchase it. You can request online via MyOPAC and receive it at the Medical Library.

Delivery books of other UTokyo libraries to the Medical Library

You can ask to deliver the books of other libraries in the University of Tokyo to the Medical Library.

† Books of the General Library are not covered by the delivery service.

Order a copy of the materials on campus

You can have the copies of the Medical Library materials in either following way:

† Not available via EZ Proxy.  PDF application may not be possible due to the policy of the holding library.
† ’Reservation/Order‘ button on the search result screen
† Private expense: Bank transfer / Public expense: Budget transfer
† You do not need to register if you have already ordered the copy from other libraries before. 

Receive at: Medical Library, Laboratories, etc. in the campus

Order copies of off-campus books and materials

You can order copies of books and literature from other institutions. 

† The Medical Library will arrange on your request

We are always accepting requests for purchasing materials from everyone.
If the book is purchased, you can borrow it with priority.
