Libraries

The state is encouraging teachers to become familiar with lexiles for reading and quantiles for math:

1. https://hub.lexile.com/ The state of Wyoming has partnered with Lexile. You can register on this site by selecting the appropriate link at the top right of the page. If you use your school email and select that you are an educator, you will receive complimentary access to the Premium Membership. You will see the state of Wyoming in the top left corner if you have signed in correctly to receive the free premium membership.

2. The coolest thing the hub.lexile.com website offers I think is the word lists. These can be filtered by both grade level and subject. It also offers charts to find the expected reading range for a grade during the fall, winter, or spring. You can also enter a text and find its lexile, or search for books by reading level among other things. These can be found by selecting "see all tools" on the left side menu.

3. http://gowyld.net/ The state wants to remind teachers of this resource as well. The link at the top of the page for GoWYLD Kids is for younger students. As you search the site, they said that Gale, Britannica, EBSCO, and Proquest are particularly good resources that have lexile levels.

4. FYI, recommended independent lexile levels that you get from benchmark, standardized, or progress monitoring tests are set to provide a student 75% comprehension, not 100%, to challenge them to improve. Keep this in mind when selecting informational text that you may want them to comprehend at a higher rate. The expected reading range for a student is 100 points below and 50 points above the recommended lexile level.
