Dear Eagle Community,
As I begin my eighth year serving as Superintendent of Uinta County School District #6, I am filled with gratitude, optimism, and an unwavering belief in what we can accomplish together. It has been one of the greatest honors of my professional life to serve this incredible community—a place where people genuinely care about one another and where our schools remain at the heart of who we are.
My wife, Ashley, and I, along with our five children, are proud to call this community home. Over the years, we have built lifelong friendships and experienced firsthand the pride, resilience, and generosity that make our district so special.
Looking back over the past seven years, I couldn't be more proud of what we've accomplished together. We have celebrated remarkable academic growth, outstanding performances in athletics and the arts, and countless student successes that extend far beyond the classroom. We have strengthened school safety, expanded opportunities for students, embraced innovative instructional practices, and navigated challenges with determination and unity. Every success has been possible because of the extraordinary partnership between our dedicated staff, supportive families, committed Board of Trustees, and this remarkable community.
As we look toward another exciting school year, our mission remains clear: Every decision we make begins and ends with what is best for students.
Our work will continue to be guided by three priorities:
Students First
Our students deserve schools where they feel safe, valued, challenged, and inspired. We will continue to make decisions that promote their academic success, emotional well-being, and future opportunities while preparing them to thrive in an ever-changing world.
Excellence in Teaching and Learning
Great schools are built on great educators. We will continue investing in our teachers and staff while embracing innovative instructional practices, meaningful technology integration, and emerging tools such as artificial intelligence. Innovation will never replace the relationships that define exceptional teaching—it will strengthen our ability to personalize learning and prepare students for the future.
Strong Partnerships and Community Trust
Education is most successful when schools, families, and the community work together. Open communication, transparency, collaboration, and mutual respect will continue to guide our work as we build trust and create opportunities for every student to succeed.
While I am proud of what we have accomplished, I firmly believe our greatest days are still ahead. We will continue striving for excellence, challenging ourselves to improve, and creating opportunities that allow every student to discover their potential and pursue their dreams.
Thank you for your continued trust, encouragement, and partnership. It is a privilege to serve alongside such dedicated educators, supportive families, and an outstanding community. Together, we will continue building a district where students are inspired to learn, educators are empowered to lead, and every Eagle has the opportunity to soar.
It is a Great Day to be an Eagle!
Sincerely,
Damien Smith
