Assessment Policy

Overview

Each chapter in the textbook will conclude with one summative chapter test. There will also be at least one formative chapter quiz depending on the length of the chapter (with a maximum of three chapter quizzes). Smaller pop quizzes may be scattered throughout the course and will be assigned without prior warning. Students must remain up to date on their assignments and class notes in order to keep pace and perform well on math assessments.

There is a zero-tolerance policy for cheating during a test, quiz, or any other assignment. Please see your student handbook for definitions and consequences of academic dishonesty.

Tests

All work must be shown whether explicitly stated on the test or not. Students should always be prepared to use their own scratch paper. Scratch work may be collected at the end of the test for credit.

If absent during a test:

  • Students who miss a test due to an excused absence must be prepared to make it up upon their return to school. Resources such as the online notes and in-class assignments should be reviewed prior to making up a test. Contact Mrs. Hoffman to schedule your makeup test.

  • Students who miss a test due to an unexcused absence run the risk of not being able to make up the assessment. This is determined on a case by case basis. (Parents, always stay in contact with the attendance office if your child is sick to avoid missing points.)

When graded tests are returned, it is a homework assignment to complete test corrections. Answers will be reviewed in class.

Pro tip: keep all tests to help review for finals!

Quizzes

All work must be shown whether explicitly stated on the quiz or not. Students should always be prepared to use their own scratch paper. Scratch work may be collected at the end of the quiz for credit.

There are no quiz makeups for chapter quizzes which otherwise delay the formative grading process.

  • Students who miss a quiz due to an excused absence will receive that chapter’s test score for the missed quiz.

  • Students who miss a quiz due to an unexcused absence will receive a zero for that quiz, no exceptions. (Parents, always stay in contact with the attendance office if your child is sick to avoid missing points.)

  • Any absent student may request a copy of the missed quiz in order to study for the chapter test. Contact Mrs. Hoffman for access to the missed quiz.

Pro tip: always keep your quizzes as practice for chapter tests!
