Our writing curriculum will address the writing standards under Common Core and will be based on the Center for the Collaborative Classroom program entitled "Being a Writer." This workshop model teaches the writing process through immersion in our three fourth grade writing genres (narrative, informational, opinion), while focusing on the development of student's intrinsic motivation for writing. In the writing workshop, the teacher gives mini-lessons of writing instruction and confers with students as they write to mentor them and guide them through the stages of the writing process- from brainstorming to publication. Students will focus on three writing styles throughout the year: narrative (personal and fiction), informative, and opinion.
