The myth of how Dionysus met his wife, Adriadne, begins with the god being kidnapped by oblivious pirates. Unaware of Dionysus' title, they were quickly humbled by the god until he had eventually requested to be dropped off. The pirates complied and, "the ship moved smoothly forward, sailing calmly towards the island of Naxos," (Greece). Once there, Dionysus had the pleasure of meeting the most beautiful woman he had ever seen: Adriadne. The pair fell for each other in an instant, and Dionysus "immediately asked the lovely young Ariadne to marry him," (Greece). Where most love stories crumble, Dionysus and Ariadne had a happy relationship despite his affairs. "Ariadne and Dionysus lived happily ever after," (Greece).
